Guerrilla Gallery I Art for the People

Covid19- Collective Encouraging Posters Exhibit

Ecuador 2020.

Galería Guerrilla I Arte Para La Gente

About

FROM THE EARTH MANKIND

Jorge Vinueza G.

Documentary Photography

October 24, 2019 - January 4, 2020

Curated by Mayah Franco

Documentary photography uses images to show us the realities of the world we live in, capturing the essence of certain moments, places and people.

Part of what makes it so important is that it registers raw and honest instants that trigger our emotions and impact us when we look at them. Images can be powerful; they can communicate a story directly to the heart in terms that we can understand, even if those represented speak another language.

Jorge Vinueza's photographs invite us to move through the evidence in time and bring to the present unique captures that are now part of our collective history.
His documentary images are testimonies that bring to the reflection moments of crisis, celebration, lights, beauty, struggle and local resistance, highlighting the interwoven layers of Ecuador, evoking the senses and convulsing our peek through its impressionistic technique.

The photographer not only shows us a particular moment frozen in time, nor does he give us a carefully wrapped package of certainties; Through his photographs he cleverly throws us into an abyss where everything is at stake.

In exposing these art works, we ask ourselves questions about the important power of photography and the scope of images.

With a selection full of wonderful photographs we invite you to re-enter the natural world and walk the Earth, embracing our connection with her, recording and understanding how within this giant geography there are these small details that allow us to understand the magnificent place we inhabit.

Happy hour conJorge Vinueza G. (4).png

MARIO SÁNCHEZ I Eme Ese

Eme Ese is one of the pioneers of Latin American Street Art who appeared in popular neighborhoods and decided that Quito is his canvas, his gallery. He let the city be his expanded field.
From the beginning he knew that his goal was not to put his name here and there, but, rather, to invade the city and fill it with images without asking permission. He soon learned that the invasions have their cost and, despite his successive victories with the police, he fell.

He asked himself: what is the point of being a bomber? and what he found was not an answer, but people who did the same.
Along with Pin8, Ralex and Infame, he founded the collective Fenómenos, an indisputable reference to talk about South American Urban Art.

His cows (iconic characters of his work) appeared every time in more cities of the world and, what his friends thought was a teenager's whim, became his way of life.

He studied arts, continuing to paint and scratch, and soon few could say that they did not know about him or had not seen his work.
His most important works are in the street, but he also tours galleries worldwide.
He joined the tattoo scene announcing the project FUTURAMA “Nowadays people are only interested in tattooed art on the skin” and while that happens there are hundreds of people around as walking works.
Convinced that other ways of presenting and circulating art are possible, he adopted styles that were beginning to stand out worldwide.

His exhibitions happen within Toxic Burrows (parties that combine art, djs and%: & $ #;%!).
His ephemeral art, which primarily occurs in the street and at parties, is clear, as opposed to the white cube.

Inside were the works hung on impeccable walls, while outside the stages multiplied, nothing else had to be taken and that was the action that would mark an entire generation of artists.
